Libertine Black Ale
by Brewdog (brewery website)
Origin: Scotland – Type: Black India Pale ale – Alcohol: 7.2%
The beer: Libertine Black Ale is a cross between a stout and an IPA, taking the rich malty flavour from the former and the hoppiness from the latter. It’s an extremely strong flavour, so keep this one for the end of the night, maybe even your final beer. There is a subtle, almost unnoticeable, fruitiness to the taste but it’s a bit overwhelmed and lost in the overall flavour. It’s served in a 2/3 pint measure, which I think would be sufficient. Unfortunately someone spilt half of mine over the table, which is always heartbreaking!
The little extra: A good beer for someone who isn’t a huge fan of stout, but wants something a little darker than a standard IPA.
Where we bought it: Brewdog’s flagship Camden bar. A must visit for a great range of beer and delicious food.
Brewdog: 113 Bayham Street, Camden Town, London, NW1 0AG – UK.
